And while quick and convenient public transportation is available to both New York City (1 ½ hours) and Boston (2 ½ hours), New Haven itself provides easy access to the scenic Connecticut shoreline, as well as the picturesque towns and villages of Connecticut’s Northeast corner, the Berkshires in Massachusetts, and many other lovely New England settings.

As a student in New Haven, you’ll find the world of culture and entertainment unfolding around you almost immediately. New Haven is one of the state’s youngest trending cities, with over half of the city’s 131,000 residents being between the ages of 18-49.From top-notch performing arts venues to unparalleled CT nightlife and dining, your only job is to be open-minded and let the city do the rest. The OIE is currently partnered with more than twenty universities around the world, ensuring that our diverse student body welcomes scholars from cities like Tianjin, Liverpool and Freiburg, to name a few. Tuition and Fees at Southern Connecticut State University are waived for all reciprocal program exchange students, so contact your university’s study abroad office to see if you’re eligible to apply.

But where can an SCSU student study abroad?

Just about anywhere, really. Southern offer domestic students the opportunity to study in countries such as Spain, France, Germany, China, Vietnam and others at costs similar to a semester spent at home. If none of our exchange partners catch your eye, you can also choose to study abroad via one of our third-party affiliates. Through programs such as ISEP, CISabroad, AIFS and others, Southern students have access to courses in more than 80 countries. We also offer short-term, faculty-led programs each Summer, Winter and Spring recess. And don’t worry, OIE’s thorough application process strives to ensure that any course taken abroad can be transferred back to SCSU.
