The Gilbert School, located in the picturesque northwest foothills of Connecticut, is a private secondary 7 – 12 comprehensive middle/high school that was founded in 1895. The school, located in Winsted, is a result of the bequest of William L. Gilbert who left funds for the “establishment and maintenance of an institution of learning to be known as The Gilbert School.”

To this day, the caring tradition has been carried out to educate the young and to help them to become well-rounded citizens in a complex, global society. The 120-acre campus is home to 3 tennis courts, a football field, a baseball diamond, and its newest addition, a brand new 52 bed-boarding hall to house male students in their International Program.

The Gilbert School participates in NCCC’s High School Partnership Program to provide program enrichment for its students. Under the agreement, eligible secondary school students are permitted to enroll in college courses on a tuition-free basis. Prior permission from The Gilbert School is required. The Gilbert School will grant one credit for each semester devoted to a full three-credit college course. Motivated students are allowed to take up to two classes each semester in their junior and senior years of high school.
