school2Students at SHU enjoy a safe and convenient suburban campus with clean, contemporary design, high-tech capabilities in classrooms and comfortable residence hall living. Many residence halls have spacious common areas, kitchens, fitness areas and separate study spaces. The award-winning dining service features fresh food for a wide variety of tastes including vegetarian, international cuisine, and fresh brick oven pizza.

Several campus buildings have been added in the past decade with student success in mind. The most recent is the new Martire building housing Business and Communications with TV studios, green screen/digital motion capture rooms, and newly-built Technology Enabled Active Learning (TEAL) classrooms with enhanced functionality for interactive/collaborative learning. An exciting and unique feature at SHU is the opportunity to compete in a brand new Gaming Lab which will open in the fall of 2016.

Undergraduate students have access to a wealth of SHU resources, including academic advising, SHU’s JLC learning center, English Language Institute, and guaranteed housing on campus for all 4 years, if desired.

SHU student activities

Opportunities for personal growth and leadership abound at SHU with an active student life. Local, national and international opportunities for performance and community service, athletic competition on the NCAA Division 1 level (32 men’s and women’s sports), intercollegiate Club sports and Intramurals, and over 80 student clubs and organizations – including popular concerts, noted authors and other guest speakers are brought to campus each year, and students are a free shuttle bus away from Fairfield’s restaurants, boutiques, shopping mall, its own beach and train commute to some of the USA’s best cities. We are only a 30 minute drive away from Yale University, a one hour drive or train ride from New York City, and 2.5 hours to Boston.

Sacred Heart Students, Graduates and Alumni

SHU students pursue many different paths after graduation. Typically, around 40% head directly to graduate school to pursue advanced degrees in their fields. SHU offers many accelerated bachelor’s-master’s programs, which allows students to earn their undergraduate and graduate degrees within five to six years. SHU graduates are also admitted to top graduate schools each year in the disciplines of law, medicine, health care, business, social work, education, humanities, social sciences and more. For those who complete their undergraduate degree, 99% have found full-time employment within their first year after graduation.

Aided by a vast alumni network and corporate connections between SHU faculty and alumni in the greater New York City region, SHU students enjoy a long list of corporate internships from which to learn outside the classroom.
